If so … WE NEED YOU!!

Next Wave, together with our good friends at Thread Den, are seeking sewers, artists, designers and hobbyists to create individually designed table napkins.

Yep that’s right, TABLE NAPKINS!!!

We need lots and lots of them for Private Dances, a rather adventurous dance/food/wine project that will premiere in the 2010 Next Wave Festival and feature work by more than 20 top-notch dancers, choreographers and filmmakers.

So we are running a COMPETITION for hand-crafted table napkins. The TOP FIVE entries will find themselves not only with a FREE pass to Private Dances but also with a $50 voucher from the lovely ladies at Thread Den!

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO!
1. Find some old fabric or off-cuts
2. Create your napkin with your own personal style and flair
3. Finish it off and drop it in (or post) to Thread Den by Monday 29 March 2010 with your name, phone number and email address.

THE RULES
1. Napkins must be functional: Go ahead and make your napkin as wild or intricate or as you like, but remember that someone will actually need to use it.
2. Try to keep it around 30×30cm square.
3. No specially bought fabric please: Reuse, recycle, use off cuts, cut up an old dress, be creative! (We’d like to keep the competition as enviro-kind as possible).
4. Enter the competition as many times as you like!

HOW CAN THREAD DEN HELP?
There is FREE fabric at your disposal if you need it at Thread Den. Drop into Thread Den and rummage through their scraps and excess. Need a sewing machine? Then Thread Den can help. Thread Den’s sewing lounge is equipped with sewing machines, overlockers and large cutting tables. Machine hire will be FREE for competition entrants who wish to construct their napkins at Thread Den. Phone Thread Den for sewing lounge operating hours.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOUR NAPKIN?
Even if you are not one of the five winners, your napkin will still be a one-off, custom made item used by one very lucky audience member at Private Dances. That audience member may choose to keep and cherish your napkin and if not, we shall find a charitable cause to donate it to.

Deadline for finished napkins is Monday 29 March, 2010

Private Dances season runs May 14-16, during the 2010 Next Wave Festival in Melbourne.
